Alpha Gamma History
On December 5th 1998 the GVSU colony was founded by Brother Jeremiah “Profeta” Garza. Some thought Sigma Lambda Beta would never survive in a school where of the 22,000 students only 2,000 were people of color; a number inclusive of all ethnic minority students. Nonetheless, Sigma Lambda Beta made its appearance and presence felt on a campus where much cultural awareness was needed. On November 4th 2004, the hard work of the GVSU Colony finally paid off as they received their charter and became recognized as the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. The goal that Brother Jeremiah Garza and Miguel Ortiz dreamed of in 1997 finally became true.
Commitment, discipline, and strength in the face of adversity are character elements that the Brothers of the Alpha Gamma chapter have made part of what it means for them to be Sigma Lambda Beta men. A true sample of diversity and cultural awareness, they continue to build and strengthen their brotherhood, they keep putting on solid programs, performing community service around the campus needs and bringing the name of Sigma Lambda Beta at GVSU to even greater heights.
